In today's very competitive business climate, being to save money means freeing up valuable resources that can then be used in more important aspects of the business. The ability of a business to save money can mean the difference between staying ahead and lagging behind their competitors.

Much of a companies budget goes to its workforce. BPO is a way to minimize the cost of a business when it comes to labor. It is common knowledge that labor in other parts of the world, particularly in developing countries are several times much cheaper than in the developed world. Some businesses actually save as much as 70% through outsourcing a few or many of their work functions abroad. Given this background, it is now easy to understand why the business process outsourcing BPO industry is in such good shape.

There are sectors that are opposed to the idea of BPO because they believe that it is one of the main causes of the economic ills that the West is experiencing. Their main accusation is that the practice of outsourcing is robbing Western workers the jobs that are supposed to be theirs. While it is true that millions of jobs have been moved from developed countries to developing ones in recent years, there is little evidence that outsourcing is causing the downfall of many Western economies. Fact is, BPO has probably saved many American companies from going under by allowing them to save money. Many economists believe that outsourcing is a strategy that can actually save many companies that are feeling the pain of the economic crisis. Some businesses who have resisted the call of BPO have paid the price dearly. Indeed, to outsource is seen by many as a survival tactic that few companies right now can ignore.

The growth of the business process outsourcing BPO industry is expected to continue in many years to come. In fact, the use of outsourcing is becoming a standard business model already for many industries. Before, only manufacturing and information technology are involved in BPO. Now, almost all kinds of companies are benefiting from the money-saving technique. Companies out there that are yet involved in BPO may want t rethink their business strategies if they want to survive in this economy.
